In order to provide the best possible care for your pet, ideally you should try to arrange an in home visit where s/he can be examined to fully discuss all of the important issues you are facing. In addition, it is not legal to prescribe medications without an actual in-person examination. However, we know that a home visit may not always be possible (and we are not currently able to provide at home visits for anything other than euthanasia appointments).
You can find general information on topics concerning how to make a decision regarding euthanasia, how to recognize if your pet is in pain, options that are available for aftercare, etc., on our FAQ page.
However, if you would like to discuss your pet's unique circumstances (e.g. disease condition, symptoms, etc.) and get specific advice, then a telephone consultation may be appropriate. Telephone consults are typically about 1 hour and can provide you with advice on topics such as:
How to evaluate quality of life in your pet
Specific things to look for in your pet to help decide when euthanasia may be appropriate
How to evaluate your pet’s pain
Dealing with a paralyzed pet
Discussing care surrounding achieving a "natural" death
Ongoing medication management
Palliative and Hospice care considerations
(Please note that based just on a phone consultation, we are not able to prescribe, provide, or renew medications for your pet. An actual visit would be required, or you would need to work with your regular vet for that aspect. In addition, we feel that it is not our place to make a recommendation as to when it is time for euthanasia, as that is a highly individual and personal decision.)
